Since 2011, Speak Up has been publishing work from writers who had no other voice. Through 90 issues of an award-winning print magazine (“Speak Up”), hundreds of writers facing homelessness gave voice to their pain, hope, and diverse perspectives.
From Speak Up
Although much of that work has been archived on Substack (see above), we’re looking for new and more enduring ways to bring it to a wider audience.
It’s too good to slip away into the dustbin of memory.
The Project Right Now — Print Pieces with a Digital Companion Hub
We want to print several anthologies that collect some of the best of Speak Up over nearly 15 years of publishing in print and online.
Alongside each printed anthology, we’ll launch an online companion hub—so hardcopy readers can easily share their favorite pieces online.
Will you make a tax-deductible donation to help us liberate these writers from forgotten folders?
We’re aiming for $10,000 to cover the first two phases of the project. Each $5,000 phase includes the printing of a book-length anthology and launch of the companion site.
